Arts & Crafts
AGAVE QUILTERS GUILD
We meet in the Oakwood Ballroom at 1:30 p.m. each 1st Wednesday of the months of September thru May, with the exception of the Christmas Luncheon on the 1st. Wednesday of Dec. and Spring Luncheon held the 1st Wednesday of April (available to members only) guests are welcome to attend any of the other meetings. There is a range of classes and programs available to all members. Beginning quilters are encouraged to join.
CHINA PAINTING
Open painting for all who enjoy the art of china painting. Kiln firing available. 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Wednesdays.
DESERT ARTISTS CLUB (DAC)
The Desert Artists Club promotes the artistic development of Sun Lakes residents. DAC meets weekly, every Wednesday throughout the year, in the Arts and Crafts Room of the Sun Lakes Country Club. Club members engage in a variety of media, including pencil, charcoal, watercolor, acrylic, pastel oils, oil paints, scratch boards, gourds, inks, mixed-media collages and small sculptures. Members create art together, and constructive critiques are available, if desired, from the most skilled members. In addition, lessons, demonstrations, equipment sharing and workshops are provided, and the participants are encouraged to exhibit their art at local, state and regional shows. A business meeting is held on the second Wednesday of each month at 9:30 a.m. Members regularly have lunch together at the Cactus Corner Café, and potluck lunches are an occasional treat. Dues are $10 per year. Experienced artists, beginners, professionals and hobbyists are all welcome to join.

Beginner to Advanced – Wednesdays, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oil Painting and Acrylic Painting classes. Color mixing is also taught.
PAINTERS’ WORKSHOP
A group of painters, whose instructor has passed but who remain together, painting and enjoying the fellowship! We meet every Thursday morning from 8:00 a.m. to noon at Sun Lakes Country Club Arts & Crafts Room.

CHORDAIRES SHOW CHORUS

We perform our annual April Show, and on request during the Christmas Season and throughout the year for community, clubs, civic, church and private events. COTILLION DANCE CLUB
The Cotillion Dance Club has six dinner dances a year featuring live bands. Dances are held the second Saturday of the month, October through April, except December. The October and April events are semi-formal. All others are black tie events. Membership is open and guests are welcome.

Ironwood Ladies’ 18-Hole Golf Association – fun, friendly yet, challenging short course (Par 67). Year-round competition every Thursday offers a variety of games. Memberships open to any Sun Lakes property owner.
IRONWOOD LADY NINERS
We are a beginner golf league formed to promote self-improvement, camaraderie, and good sportsmanship. Four free golf clinics per year. Play day is Wednesday. Membership is open to all Sun Lakes ladies.
MEN’S IRONOAKS NINE HOLE GOLF ASSOCIATION (NINERS)
We are an association of golfers that choose to play a 9-hole competition on a handicap basis. Play is by the rules of golf promoting friendship and fellowship. Residents of Sun Lakes are welcome to become members of the Niners.
MEN’S OAKWOOD GOLF ASSOCIATION (MOGA)
Men’s Golf Association – Oakwood Country Club. The club provides weekly events and competition throughout the year. Events include club championships, President’s Cup, Christmas Dinner Dance, and Awards Banquet.
OAKWOOD COUPLES 18-HOLE GOLF LEAGUE
Oakwood Couples 18 Hole Golf League meets on two Fridays per month from November through May. The program is a variety of golf games followed by dinner in the winter months and lunch in the summer months. It’s great socializing and competition-filled events. Couples only; one person must be a member of MOGA or OLGA and both must have AWGA and AGA handicaps.

OAKWOOD NINE-HOLE COUPLES’ LEAGUE
This is a nine-hole couples’ league open to all of Sun Lakes. The game is followed by a dinner every other Friday, November through first week in May. An application is available on www.sunlakes3golf.com.
OAKWOOD LADY NINERS GOLF ASSOCIATION
The Oakwood Lady Niners are a great group of ladies who enjoy playing golf and socializing with other members. After our weekly golf games, we enjoy luncheons and special events. We welcome golfers of all abilities, including beginning and novice golfers who are interested in improving their game while learning golf etiquette and rules in a fun-filled environment. We offer a “Pitch and Putt” option to our ladies where you can tee off at 150 yard marker and play into the pin. We play on Tuesday mornings in a shotgun format with a 10:00 a.m. start time. During the summer it is 7:00 a.m.

The Palo Verde Couples Golf League meets every Friday for 18 holes of fun-filled golf. We have year-round events and competition including the Couples Club Championship. Applications for membership are available at the Palo Verde Shop.

Each player brings $2 for the cost of play, a putter, golf ball, and a marker. We are a non-profit organization. We give contributions to Neighbors Who Care, Inc., Sun Lakes Fire Department, Sheriff’s Posse, and others. Cost is $10 to join.

A computer club that holds a general meeting the first Tuesday of each month and presents information on computer software or hardware by a guest speaker. We are RV owners who come together for road rallies to various destinations in the Western USA and Mexico. We also socialize with monthly meetings that include interesting presentations that pertain to RV mechanical safety issues.

Sew-N-Sews will meet the second Wednesday of the month at 1:30 p.m. in the Oakwood Ballroom. Learn about creative sewing, fabric embellishment, and community outreach projects. Open to all Sun Lakes residents and others.
SHORT LINE MODEL RAILROAD CLUB
A club made of members who enjoy Railroading and modeling all gauges of trains and other modes of transportation and structures. We meet on the second Saturday of the month at the SunBird Community Center. Throughout the year we typically participate in several of the Communities’ Activity days, have an annual ‘Open House’ event that is open to the public, and several social events for club members. SUN LAKES AERO CLUB
The SLAC is dedicated to serve members of widely varying interests to network in aeronautically similar areas such as sailplanes, home-builds, powered flying, radio controlled and rubber band powered models, etc., and to share general aviation participation. Experiences range from military, commercial, and airline pilots through private and pre-solo pilots. Some have tens of thousands of hours of logged pilot time, some have none, but all are welcome. SUN LAKES CAMERA CLUB
The Sun Lakes Camera Club meets at 7:00 p.m. on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays October through April in the Navajo Room of the Sun Lakes Club House. Photographers of all skill levels interested in improving their photographic skills through shared information and competition are encouraged to join the club. Typically the first meeting of the month is a workshop while the second meeting is a competition. Club members compete with prints and projected digital images. In addition, three or more field trips are planned to photogenic sites in the Southwest each club year. SUN LAKES GARDEN CLUB
The purpose of the Sun Lakes Garden Club is to gain knowledge of desert landscaping and gardening and to disseminate that information to the Sun Lakes community. We have accomplished many landscaping projects within the Sun Lakes community for the Chapel Center and for other areas of Sun Lakes.
SUN LAKES METAL LOKATORS
The club uses a battery operated, hand-held instrument called a metal detector. Its purpose is to locate buried, hidden, and lost treasures. The club will instruct those interested in metal detecting, and also how to retrieve found treasures.

The Savvy Travelers Club meets on the 2nd Thursday of every month at 6:30 p.m. in Phoenix Room of the Cottonwood Clubhouse. Join us for great money saving travel tips and insider information about all kinds of travel.

SOUTHEAST VALLEY PERFORMING ARTS LEAGUE (PAL)
The Southeast Valley Performing Arts League (PAL) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the performing arts in the Southeast Valley by providing tickets and transportation to local and downtown events. PAL also contributes to non-profit organizations and local educational institutions to promote performing arts education for talented students.

Sun Lakes Chorale is a concert choir made up of approximately 75 Sun Lakes residents. The choir presents two formal concerts in December and March; rehearsals are every Friday in the Mirror Room of Sun Lakes Country Club. Check out our website www.sunlakeschorale.com for more information.

SLCT’s mission is to provide live theater performed by residents of all the Sun Lakes and SunBird communities. Auditions are open to all Sun Lakes and SunBird residents.

CHRISTIAN WOMEN’S CLUB
Christian Women’s Club/Women’s Connection has been active in Sun Lakes since 1980 and is affiliated with Stonecroft Ministries. We meet October through May either the 2nd or 3rd Thursday mornings at 9:00 a.m. in the Oakwood Clubhouse Ballroom. Check the Splash for exact dates. Events include a full breakfast, fun programs geared to women’s interests, musical talent and inspirational speakers. All women are invited!

The Knights of Columbus is the world’s largest Catholic family fraternal service organization with 1.8 million members. It provides members and their families with volunteer opportunities in service to the Catholic Church, their communities, families and young people. The Knights of Columbus is a Pro-life Organization.
FRIENDSHIP BIBLE CLASS
We are a Bible-based women’s study using lesson plans of Stonecroft Ministries. We meet in the Sun Lakes Community Church office meeting room. All women are welcome.

ST. STEVEN’S KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS – 4TH DEGREE ASSEMBLY
Assembly 2356 is the public showpiece of the Knights in Sun Lakes. The primary purpose of the 4th degree is to promote patriotism through a variety of activities. Our current focus is on disabled and homeless veterans. A year-long effort is planned to provide material and volunteers to meet the needs of this important group. In addition, the Fourth Degree Color Guard is made up of Sir Knights who voluntarily dress in full regalia to attend funerals, parades and patriotic gatherings.

This is a social club for men who are members of the Sun Lakes Jewish Congregation. We have monthly meetings with interesting guest speakers, annual dinners, golf tournament and charitable activities.

The congregation offers a wide variety of devotional and study groups, service and fellowship groups for men, women, couples, and single people. The congregation has its theological heritage rooted in the Protestant Reformation, founded through a merger of the Evangelical and Reformed Church and the Congregational-Christian churches.

Service Organizations
AL-ANON SUPPORT GROUP
Al-Anon is a group that offers help and support for families and friends of alcoholics. There are no dues for membership. Al-Anon supports itself through its own voluntary contributions.
AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF UNIVERSITY WOMEN (AAUW)
For more than 130 years, the American Association of University of Women (AAUW) has worked as a nationwide community to break through barriers for women and girls. Today more than 100,000 members, donors, and college/university partners across the country come together to support AAUW’s mission of advancing equity through advocacy, education, philanthropy and research. Close to $4 million is awarded each year in graduate fellowships, grants, campus project support and undergraduate scholarships. The Southeast Valley (AZ) Branch was formed in 1989 and has more than 100 active members. Branch activities include community action in education and literacy, fundraising for fellowships and local scholarships, advocacy for laws and policies that affect women and girls in their everyday lives, and multiple interest groups. If you hold an associate or equivalent, baccalaureate or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university, you can become a member of AAUW. Meetings are held the third Monday of the month, October through April at 7:00 p.m.
BETA SIGMA PHI-PRECEPTOR GAMMA GAMMA CHAPTER
Beta Sigma Phi is an international women’s fellowship network. It also provides educational programs to its members and service to others, and includes women of all ages, interests, educational, and economic backgrounds. This is the largest organization of its kind in the world.

SCANDINAVIAN CLUB OF THE SOUTHEAST VALLEY
The club serves all of Sun Lakes and surrounding communities, by providing programs for members having ancestors from Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Iceland. Our meetings are held at 5:00 p.m. on the third Sunday of each month, from November through March. Programs emphasize Scandinavian heritage through travelogues, speakers, cultural entertainers, artifact displays, exchange student presentations, patriotic singing and an informational newsletter. Appetizers and a cash bar are provided at each meeting, followed my member-prepared smorgasbord meals featuring popular and traditional covered dishes and desserts. Annual dues are $15 per person. The Cottonwood Tennis Club with its volunteers created over 7000 hours of individual play through inters and intra events, tournaments, organized play, and league play. Membership is open to all Cottonwood/Palo Verde residents and, with quotas, other Sun Lakes communities.

LUCKY SHOT POOL CLUB
This club was organized in 1995 for Sun Lakes homeowners interested in playing tournament pool. We conduct five annual 8-Ball and 9-Ball pool tournaments at Cottonwood Palo Verde at Sun Lakes facilities in the Cottonwood Clubhouse.

Our goal is to promote slo-pitch softball as a sport for recreation and competition in the Sun Lakes community area.
SOFTBALL – WOMEN’S SLO-PITCH TEAM
The Women’s Slo-Pitch Softball Team plays in the Valley of the Sun League (ten teams) during the months of January and February with practices in December. Ladies must be 50 or older. Bats and gloves are available.
